Monarch Joint Venture (MJV) is a partnership coordinating monarch migration conservation efforts across NGOs, state and federal agencies, and academic programs, in the contiguous United States. In addition to many efforts, the MJV website is an online resource hub providing the general public with up-to-date resources to implement BMPs in support of monarch habitat protection, enhancement and restoration.

Resources include links to presentations and webinars, downloadable brochures and reports, news and project updates and links to partner organization websites and materials. Many materials provide state or region-specific information developed by local practitioners (MJV 2015). Some materials developed by MJV are also available, such as Mowing: Best Practices for Monarchs; Gardening for Monarchs: Creating Habitat for Monarch Butterflies and Other Pollinators; and Invasive Species Alert: Black swallow-wort (Cynanchum louiseae) and pale swallow-wort (Cynanchum rossicum). For example, Mowing: Best Practices for Monarchs gives a general overview of BMPs relating to mowing monarch habitat, whether part of invasive/pest species management or for aesthetic or other management purposes.

The document reviews important considerations, such as the timing, extent, frequency and method of mowing based on general monarch biology and site location (MJV 2016).
