This guidelines brochure provides a description of voluntary BMPs for management and creation of pollinator habitat in roadsides or ROWs. These practices are intended for Department of Transportation (DOT) staff, as well as other ROW managers, which may include agricultural landowners.

Recommendations are general in nature and cover invasive/pest species management; habitat identification, preservation, or restoration; mowing or haying; and prescribed burning. References to state statutes are provided in order to place some recommendations in context. A reference to the state DOT’s Living Snow Fence incentive program is also provided, as are links to additional resources (MDA 2014).
