Payments for Environmental Services (PSA) is a program administered by the National Forestry Commission (Comisión Nacional Forestal—Conafor) and supported by partners such as Conanp, which funds multiple kinds of projects, including those that provide biodiversity benefits in natural protected areas (Conanp 2014). In Baja California, the Valle de los Cirios APFF receives financial support through Conafor to prevent and control wildfires in the desert grassland ecosystem (Escoto Rodríguez 2016). This program currently funds work in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve (La Reserva de la Biosfera Mariposa Monarca). PSA Concurrent Funds are targeted, as with the Monarch Fund (Fondo Monarca) (Conafor et al. 2013).
