The Florida Museum of Natural History is “working with the Florida Association of Native Nurseries and the Florida Wildflower Foundation on increasing the availability of native ecotype seed for growers” (Daniels 2016). Often non-native milkweed plants are the only commercially available milkweed plants in Florida, and this project is working to give the public alternative options by increasing the availability of native milkweed species for purchase. The project aims to do so by spreading educational material about appropriate native milkweed species and increasing demand for local, native milkweed at nurseries across the state (FANN 2016).
