Through the implementation of the Conservation Program for Sustainable Development (Programa de Conservación para el Desarrollo Sostenible—Procodes), the Temporary Employment Program (Programa de Empleo Temporal—PET), and the monitoring activities included in the annual operating program of the protected natural area at the El Chico National Park, monarch butterfly monitoring was strengthened in the Sierra Madre Oriental ecological corridor region.

Watch and monitoring brigades have also been established, trained to apply the national standardized monitoring protocol for the monarch butterfly, reporting previously unknown passage and stopover sites. The annual operating program of the El Chico National Park also includes environmental education talks and workshops at schools and communities in the area, aimed at creating public awareness with respect to the care and conservation of the butterfly migratory phenomenon.
